The rapid expansion of the Internet and other information technologies in recent years has been accompanied by growing demands for protection of personal data. Shibaura Mechatronics Corporation (hereinafter "Shibaura Mechatronics") fully respects the privacy and personal data (hereinafter collectively called "personal data") of our customers, and regards their protection as a social responsibility and a fundamental of its business activities. Here we introduce details of how Shibaura Mechatronics handles personal data in Japan.
Shibaura Mechatronics allows access to almost all of its services without any need for disclosure of personal data. However, certain services, including those indicated below, cannot be used without the provision of personal data.
"Personal Data" means information that can be used to identify an individual, and which includes one or any combination of the following: name, age, date of birth, telephone number, e-mail address, street address, place of work, etc.
Compliance with Laws
Shibaura Mechatronics complies with Japanese laws, regulations and norms related to personal data.
Specification of Purpose of Use and Prohibition of Use for other Purpose
Whenever Shibaura Mechatronics asks for personal data, the purposes for which they will be used are specified in advance, and the use is restricted to those purposes. If the need to use personal data for purposes other than those specified should arise, Shibaura Mechatronics informs individuals of the additional purposes in advance. All individuals may, at their own discretion, refuse to consent to use of their personal data for such additional purposes.
Individuals who do not wish to provide their personal data to Shibaura Mechatronics can withhold the provision at their own discretion. (Please note that some services for which personal data is essential cannot be provided in such cases.)
Non-Disclosure to Third Parties
In principle, Shibaura Mechatronics does not disclose or provide personal data to third parties, except in the following circumstances:
1) When express consent to do so is received from the person concerned.
2) When an inquiry concerning a product or service can be more appropriately handled by a subsidiary or affiliate of Shibaura Mechatronics.
3) When Shibaura Mechatronics consigns such activities as promotional campaigns or competitions to other entities with which non-disclosure agreements have been concluded in advance.
4) When it is necessary to receive payments for products ordered or services provided (e.g. providing necessary information to financial institutions for credit card transactions, etc.)
5) When required by law or the like to disclose personal data.
6) When the business is succeeded by another entity by means of a merger, corporate separation, transfer of business or otherwise.
Inquiries about Personal Data
Individuals who wish to confirm their personal data are requested to contact the section responsible for the services for which they provided the data (if input via the Web, contact the website maintenance section). Shibaura Mechatronics will provide the personal data that it holds only after confirming that the individual making the inquiry is the person concerned. This restriction applies in order to prevent leakage of personal data to third parties.
When personal data contains errors or needs to be updated, Shibaura Mechatronics will correct or delete the incorrect or outdated information at the request of an individual only when Shibaura Mechatronics has confirmed that the individual making the request is the person concerned. This restriction applies in order to prevent falsification of personal data by third parties.
