The market for flat panel displays (FPD), including liquid crystal displays, has seen remarkable expansion, and further growth is still expected. Price reduction, alongside enhanced image quality, is a key factor for market development, but will not be achieved simply by producing larger mother glasses.

Shibaura Mechatronics Corporation will participate in "FINETECH JAPAN 2006" and introduce FPD manufacturing equipment and technologies for the TFT, colour-filter, cell, and module processes.

Prices of LCD panels for large-sized FPD TV are in decline, in the face of fierce competition among LCD panel manufacturers and intense competition against plasma display panels (PDP). Among the challenges panel manufacturers have to overcome are cost reductions in raw materials, equipment and maintenance, along with improvements in capacity utilisation ratios, yield rates and factory layout. In supporting panel manufacturers as they work toward solutions to these issues, Shibaura Mechatronics aims to develop and market manufacturing equipment that can reduce the total COO.
